With fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery and oncology, our providers are experts in the treatment of these rare tumors of the skin, which include cancers such as dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX), microcystic adnexal carcinoma, sebaceous carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma, porocarcinoma, pleomorphic dermal sarcoma, and leiomyosarcoma, among others. Many of these unusual tumors are treated with Mohs micrographic surgery; however, others may be treated with standard surgery or occasionally referral to another specialist.
As a specialty center for skin cancer, we regularly see difficult skin cancers, which are large, recurrent, or located in difficult locations such as the nose/ ear, eyelid, or lip. Our providers attend the monthly Southern Hills Skin Cancer Tumor Board in which a team of specialists discuss patients with difficult or challenging cases of skin cancer. Specialists in attendance are surgical oncologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, and radiation therapists. We are committed to remaining current and well-trained in skin cancer treatments to deliver the best possible care to our patients.
